Be an informed voter

I would like to start off by saying happy new year! As I look forward to a new year, I truly believe that politics is about to get as dirty as we’ve ever seen politics get. So I thought I’d take the time, to try to help out first time voters in 2014. This is a new year but be on the lookout for old tricks.
We already heard that there’s going to be issues over raising the debt ceiling. So I just want to say first, follow the issues that the individuals running for office says he or she stands up for and believe in, also follow the way these individuals vote on these issues in the House of Representatives and Senate. If these issues are important to you, when you go to vote, vote for the person that voted the same way that you feel about the issues in question.
Also don’t get all of your information TV shows and talk radio shows that play snippets of speeches that were picked out to fit their narrative. Listen to campaign speeches for yourself and try as much as you can to keep up with all proceedings by watching CSPAN, thereby eliminating the talking heads between you the voter and the individuals that are running for office.
Personally, during the 2012 elections I came to realize that the election laws should be revised to allow more flexibility for third-party candidates, access to general election debates, and the general elections as well. This is simply because, the Republicans don’t seem to have any new ideas or suggestions to help make the country better.
Third-party candidates would breathe life back into American politics, so I’d like the new Green Party. In fact, I always got Obama’s back, because his policies reflect what he believes in, but I wish the 2012 presidential election would’ve been between Romney and Jill Stein. Check out what she has to say, would’ve voted for her. So watch out GOP because there are people out there with real ideas.

Gun reform needed, desperately!!!!

WGNO

Slidell Police have identified a suspect in the Christmas night shooting that killed two people and put six others in the hospital.

Several witnesses have come forward.

WGNO News Reporter Darian Trotter tells us about the video that’s helped police make a break in the case.

A memorial is growing outside Shooters Bar in the Historic Old Town

District of Slidell.

Its where trouble inside the bar Christmas night spilled out onto the street.

Witness describe an argument, turned fist fight that ended in a multiple shooting in which two

people died.

“That shouldn’t have been something that happened,” Slidell resident Rodney Holman said.

Shocked and saddened the community struggles; as Slidell Police wasted no time searching for suspected shooter, 22-year old Jamieon Chatman.

He’s accused of killing Errol Scott, Mark Womack, and injuring 6 others.

“We have issued warrants for his arrest,” Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith said. “Two…

I would like to start this op-ed off by saying this, Mr Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Ted Cruz and others all seem hell bent on accusing the president of being guilty of impeachable offenses and stripping constitutional liberties from the American people. I resent this very much, these people obviously don’t know the truth when it’s staring them right in the face. Who wouldn’t know if constitutional liberties were being stripped away? Surely African Americans would, I mean after all, we lived in the land of the free and home of the brave for centuries under a totalitarian government and the theocracy as well, which are to governmental systems , both factions of the Republican Party claim to hate. In actuality I again disagree! In fact, they do like a totalitarian government and a theocracy as long as it works for them. For example, they believe because a certain religion says contraception is wrong, that the government should make it illegal. Another example marriage equality Is the same, Marijuana is the same, gun laws, voting rights, abortion, and add immigration reform to the list as well. So for my perspective, 2014 is shaping up to be a very interesting year, which I believe the Democrats CAN and WILL win, because these are the issues that we fight for and should campaign on all the way across the board, plus jobs in the economy and healthcare.
For too long in this country, elected politicians have failed to listen to the people who chose them to serve in office. At this point, I would just like to say, it’s very telling when Congress overlooks the wishes of 94% of the American people concerning a matter of public safety where guns are a concern.
If the power is with the people who elected these individuals, how is it that our wishes could be SO disregarded? It’s as if Republicans don’t care about all those lives lost at one of the few places wherewe should be able to count on safety in this country.
I would just like to conclude by saying to Mr. Mark Levin and the others named above in this Op-Ed as well as the congressional and Senate. Republicans, stop using the 2nd amendment as a prop to support gun manufacturers and people who stand to make a lot of money off the sales of guns, and stand up for our children to have the right to be educated in a safe worry free environment.
I would also like to say to Mr. Levin and the other critics who rail on and on about constitutional liberties being stripped away. Put yourself in the shoes of a person who is gay, and think about the fact that they love their partner as much as you love your wife. Think about you wanting to marry the person that you love and then remember under the constitution you have no rights, and the government refuses to acknowledge your love, your passion, the time you spend with this individual, and other things that make this person special to you.
So constitutional liberties are not even granted to some, while you and the Republican party feel it’s ok to say inflammatory things.
