We will be heard: Black Voices in America

Are there new ways being devised to undermind the strives that African Americans have made in america? As a black man in America I’m going to make a bold statement and say YES! Moreover, i’m tired of being sold this bill of goods by people in politics elected and entrusted with a responsibility and a duty to protect and ensure democracy for everyone. African Americans have been hearing elected politicians trying to tell us that its alright for African Americans in America, well I disagree, the justice system has just become a little more skewed.
First things first, black men in America are now more than ever being criticized and judged on things that are far removed from the content of their character. For instance, the people that came over to America on the Mayflower seeking religious freedom. But today there are people in and associated with the Republican party that point the finger at our first African American president and accuse him of being a closet Muslim, as if this is not America where religious freedom means just that,FREEDOM!
Other black men in America are now being prosecuted and sent to prison for things said in their rap lyrics. You don’t have to take my word on this, I strongly suggest that readers of my blog Google the cases of two prominent rap artists: Christopher Dorsey (B-Gizzle/B.G) and Torrence Hatch (Lil Boosie). I also feel that now more than ever black people are viewed as suspicious by law enforcement, and we can’t forget about “neighborhood watch”. I mean really, do you know any black man in America that has been imprisoned? I’m sure anyone who has ever mentored a young African American male knows that most times the fathers of those young men are absent from the homes. The Republicans have been touting this message that 70% of African Americans are born out of wedlock, and that is why African Americans are often low income families or individuals. Well my know it all Republican friends I’ll let you in on a little secret, or not such a “little secret”. A lot of these absentee fathers were involved in their kids lives, but when they can’t find good jobs to provide for their families, they turn to the only thing that they see as an option and that is selling drugs, and then they go on a nice long vacation in a state or federal corrections facility. I’m not condoning selling drugs by anyone of any race because, I believe drugs tears a community down, but what happens a lot of the times in the African American communities, instead of law makers and law enforcement being tough on crime, they are being tough on what they like to call black crime, so black men wind up being disproportionately incarcerated.
Being an African American Myself who grew up in a drug and crime infested neighborhood, I was often stopped, detained, and searched by law enforcement. Those of you reading this don’t know that I’m actually blind, but
sometimes the same officers stopped, detained, and searched me. So as you can imagine I find these stop and frisk policies especially distasteful, and I feel that it’s nothing more than a way to assert dominance over blacks and racially profile. The Republican party seem to like these types of policies along with the types of policies that disenfranchises minority voters, and again readers don’t take my word for it, because conservative talk radio host Sandy Rios expanded on the usual right winged narrative about African Americans and race relations in America by saying “White Americans are no longer racist, but just in case they are it’s no fault of their own rather racist black people. By constantly bringing up race have brought out the racist demon in white folks.” She also said ” I think the racist garbage coming from the -uh, a lot of blacks right now are just filled with bitterness and rage.” Now these comments show just how far in actuality the right wing has really advanced when it comes to matters of race relations in this country, and as an African American I resent these statements.
On the contrary African Americans have been extremely forgiving, and not at all in my opinion vocal enough when it comes to these claims that black people are now the racists of this country. We as African Americans haven’t been vocal enough on the issues that I feel should be a cause for African Americans and that’s things like: a cultural and educational government sponsored trip to Africa for African Americans, genetic identification of lost branches on the African family tree, and yes even some reparations.
So I’ll say here and now that Democrats and the Civil Rights community should not be intimidated by this kind of garbage from the right wing. I mean to say, this garbage narrative that any of these things equates to the government giving black people free stuff is meant to discourage reasonable and mature conversation on race relations, and all the other issues that grew out of slavery and continues to DIVIDE AMERICA.
